This flexible and cost-effective option ensures consistent care without geographic limitations, making expert advocacy and compassionate support accessible to more parents while complementing medical providers every step of the way.

I am Cierria Jones, founder and owner of Canopy Doulas. I am a wife, mother of two, public health professional, and certified doula living in Fort Worth.
I have always had a passion for maternal and child health and being an advocate in the birthing space. It wasn’t until I became a mother that I knew women and their families could benefit from having supplemental education and support during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. I am not here to replace your ob-gyn or midwife. However, I am here to work together with whoever you have decided is a part of your birthing team.
With Canopy Doulas, the goal is for you to have an experience as close to what you have planned and the proper information to make the best decisions for you and your family through pregnancy, labor/delivery, and postpartum.

FAQ's
01
What is a doula?
A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to a birthing person before, during, and shortly after childbirth.
02
What does a birth doula do?
Birth doulas meet with you prenatally, offer support throughout your labor and birth, and are there for you as you transition into your postpartum chapter. A birth doula offers comfort measures (breathing, massage, positioning), emotional reassurance, advocacy support, and guidance to help you navigate your birth preferences. Some things that are included in doula work: prenatal visits, telephone/email support, on-call availability, continuity of care, assistance and support during labor and birth, assistance with optimal fetal positioning (which can be discussed prenatally and utilized during the birth process), massage, breastfeeding support, resources and much more.
03
How is a doula different from a midwife?
A doula provides non-medical support; a midwife is a healthcare provider who performs clinical tasks such as monitoring fetal heart rate, checking dilation, and delivering the baby.
04
Does a doula replace my partner?
Not at all. A doula supports both you and your partner. They can help your partner feel confident and involved.
05
When should I hire a doula?
Most families hire one during the second trimester, but you can hire a doula at any time depending on availability.
06
Do doulas support epidurals or medicated births?
Yes. Doulas support all birth choices, including epidurals, unmedicated births, inductions, and cesareans.
07
What if I need a C-section?
A doula can provide support before and after surgery, help with advocacy, assist with positioning for comfort, and guide early bonding or feeding.
08
How long does a doula stay during labor?
Typically from active labor through 1–2 hours after birth, but this varies by contract.
09
Are doulas covered by insurance?
Coverage varies by state and provider. Some insurance plans, Medicaid programs, and FSAs/HSA funds may reimburse doula services.
10
Can a doula advocate for me with hospital staff?
Doulas don’t speak for you but help you understand your options and encourage you to use your own voice. However, your doula may ensure your birth plan is followed during labor and delivery.
11
Do doulas support home births and hospital births?
Yes—doulas can attend births in hospitals, birth centers, or at home.
